I have been looking for the perfect awning for my teardrop trailer for several years and I believe that the Kelty side roads awning is that awning. I wanted something that packs up small, is easy to set up, is easy to attach to my trailer, is roomy, and stands up to wind and rain. This awning has all of these features. It was easy to setup and easy to attach to the rack on my trailer. Set up took about 10 minutes and I was able to do it alone. I think attachment would have worked even without the rack as there are long attachment straps that reached to the tire on the opposite side of the trailer and the trailer yoke. I used the small attachment straps to attach to my rack and the longer straps to secure the awning.I experimented with different attachment configurations on my trailer (with a rack on top) including on the side, on the side and over the top of the trailer, and off the galley area in the back. It also looks like I could use it on my Subaru Outback if I ever needed it. The different attachment configurations were easily achieved with minimal manipulation. Bottom line, I can switch things up as conditions require. I also tried raising the bottom of the awning off the ground using some extra tent poles. This worked, but will require additional guy lines. The ones attached to the awning are too short when using the poles. This configuration opens up the area, which might be preferable under certain conditions. I will likely use the intended configuration, but I like having options. There is quite a bit of room under the awning. I could stand up under the awning (I am 5’6”) with lots of head room above me. My teardrop is less than 6’ tall, so the arched structure of the awning provides more headspace. The awning did stand up to rain and wind. Not long after I set it up a big thunderstorm came through with heavy rain, small hail, and 14 mph winds. The awning stood up to it all. The awning comes with heavy duty stakes for staking it to the ground. This was a nice addition in that most of the tents I have purchased typically come with cheap stakes. The included stakes will work in hard packed ground and won’t bend. There are two ground attachments - the 2 corners and 2 guy lines. I liked the tensioners on the guy lines - they worked great with minimal effort. Another nice touch with this Kelty product. I also appreciated the pockets for the guy lines and attachment straps. It was nice to have all the lines and straps out of the way when I took down the awning. Regarding takedown, this also took about 10 minutes. The awning easily fit back into the carrying bag with no problem - there was even room to spare. Very nice! All in all I am very pleased with the Kelty awning. The price was reasonable and the size was perfect for my set up. I went with the Kelty because of the end being staked to the ground. I think this provides additional stability in the wind. If I want it more spacious, I can use my own poles to make I so. The arched structure does not allow for any water puddling on the top, rather it all runs off.The only negative is that one of the pole clips was broken when I opened it up the first time. Since I really did not want to send it back to Amazon, the broken clip was easily fixed with a small Velcro strip. Since the clips are plastic and could break, it is nice to have an easy fix when I am camping, just in case. Other than the clip, the awning is well made and looks like it will survive many more camping adventures for years to come.
